The Pran interacts with you and is relevant to some quests as well as the overall plot. The game also places a lot of importance on having a pet called a Pran. There is however, a lot of information and dialogue for those who enjoy reading such things. There is a story and a lore surrounding this game, although I personally did not find it too engaging. Only on occasion did these features not help us due to a poor quest description of what needed to be done. You can also type in a monster or objective into the map’s search feature and it will highlight where it can be found. Opening up the quest log and selecting a specific quest will give you an arrow indicating its general direction or you can even press the ‘Auto-Move’ button and the game will take you to the required location for you. Unsure of who has a quest available or where you have accepted some? Open up your map and youll see a flashing icon on every relevant NPC. One exception to the games poor sense of direction provided to players does come with the questing system. There isn’t too much backtracking in terms of going back to area’s you’ve mostly out-leveled since monsters do not scale to your level but it does appear from time to time. It’s not uncommon to have a few quests active from a few different NPC’s all requiring you to kill the same monster.Īs you level up the quests naturally shift to another section of the map. NPC’s models and voices tend to get reused heavily as well, at least they attempt to justify this by having NPC’s “relocate” due to plot purposes.ĭepending on your level, you generally are offered a whole bunch of quests in a certain section of each land and many of these quests overlap. This rarely changes, deviating slightly from time to time but mostly being the same format. The quests on offer are pretty much of vary standard MMORPG fare in which you generally are ‘Killing X monsters’ or ‘Collecting Y items’. Various NPC’s will offer quests for you to complete. However in Aika it just comes off as being clunky and inefficient without the context or benefits of why in some older games this was actually a good thing (Think Resident Evil inventory management). There is no one button click to neatly arrange all your inventory and storage items you’ve collected by whether it’s a weapon, consumable or crafting material. Some will appreciate these aspects as being old school and to some people a better time for gaming in general. One example being Inventory management is manual. In this instance, there really isn’t any difference since the areas aren’t very far from each other.ĭue to the age of the game, which in MMO years is one of the older ones available many design philosophies and conveniences we enjoy today are not present. This is only the beginning of things to come.
#Aika online review how to
The game does an incredibly poor job at explaining almost all of its mechanics, how to play or how things work in general.Īfter you’ve made your character you get to pick whether you spawn in the city or fields with no explanation as to why this choice is even there or what advantages or disadvantages if any they present. This however may be an intentional design once we delve into the PvP aspects of the game later on, in which identification of class becomes important. The only options being a few different hairstyles and colours. Customisation options are also fairly limited. Classes are gender locked, so you won’t be playing a Female Warrior or Male Cleric. Upon starting the game you pick a nation to spawn in and what class your character will be. These physics based mechanics are all largely missing from a hotkey based MMORPG. Unlike other action games in this genre which would have aspects of physics based gameplay such as direction, timing and positioning of attacks as well as direct control over dodging. For those unfamiliar with what a hotkey based MMORPG is, it involves pressing and assigning hotkeys to cast spells, skills and attack. Does it have the right features to keep you playing? Basic InformationĪika Online is a hotkey based MMORPG.

Poor introduction to game mechanics and concepts. Will run well on a wide variety of computer setups. Each class has a role to play and synergises well with each other.End-game PvP can be accessed relatively quickly.
